Step-by-Step Preparation

  1. Measure: Pour 250 ml of 99% isopropyl alcohol into a clean spray bottle. Add 25 ml of liquid lanolin (maintaining the 10:1 ratio).
  2. Mix: Shake the bottle vigorously for 30 to 60 seconds until the mixture looks completely uniform.
  3. Temperature Check: If the mixture separates or looks cloudy over time, it is usually because it got cold. Simply dip the bottom of the spray bottle in warm tap water for a few minutes and shake it again to re-dissolve the lanolin.

Application Tips for Various Calibers

  • Pistol Calibers: Use a very light mist. Straight-walled pistol cases require very little lubrication to resize smoothly.
  • Bottleneck Rifle Calibers: Place your brass in a flat cardboard box or a large plastic bin. Spray at a 45-degree angle while rolling the brass around to ensure full body coverage.
  • Avoid the Necks: Do not spray directly into the case mouths or directly onto the case shoulders. Excess lube pooling on the shoulder will cause cosmetic oil dents during resizing.
  • The Evaporation Rule: Wait 5 to 10 minutes after spraying before you start resizing. The alcohol must completely evaporate so only a thin, slick film of lanolin remains. If the brass still feels wet with alcohol, it will drag in the die.

Post-Resizing Cleanup

Lanolin does not evaporate on its own and will stay sticky. To clean your brass after resizing:

  • Tumbling: Toss the resized brass into a media tumbler (walnut or corn cob) for 15 to 20 minutes to remove the film.
  • Liquid Wash: Alternatively, wash the brass in warm water mixed with a grease-cutting dish soap or a dedicated brass cleaning solution, then dry thoroughly.
